Modern Warfare 2: The Implosion

Over the weekend it was revealed to a little known site that MW2 would not have dedicated servers. Meaning no clan servers, no tactical servers, no mods what so ever... basically one of the key features that made MW1 such an amazing hit. Gone.

Infinity Ward had Monday to send out someone to refute this news. Yet they didn't. They didn't say anything. Guilt by silence?

In just a few days the online petition has received more then 90,000 signatures. The same community manager that dropped this bomb is now saying that the petition will not be ignored by Infinity Ward. For what ever that's worth.

The only note of positive news we got out of this is that the PC release will not be delayed. There's something...of course the largest reason to buy the game is now gone...

I had a hard time swallowing this. IW is a company worthy of respect which makes me think Activision forced them into this position for some unknown reason. Something DRM related maybe? Hell of a bomb to drop just a few weeks shy of release.

This might be the first time I've seen an online petition worthy of my signature. Crazy how one little bit of news like this can change my attitude from 'hotly anticipated' to 'lucky if I buy it' in a single stroke.

The bottom line is they want to be able to charge for DLC on the PC. They can't do that if people can just make custom maps/mods. That's really the only explanation I've heard that makes sense.

They made a lot of money on WAW 360 map packs...so I can see that as being a reason high on their list.

Still, suck it up princess. If it really bothers you that much just don't release the maps on the PC.
